Benton Harbor Football Coach Uzelac resigns after differences with school board
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Benton Harbor Football Head Coach Elliot Uzelac is resigning from his position because of differences with the school board.
A member of the school board confirms Uzelac submitted his resignation Friday afternoon.
In April, Benton Harbor High School Principal Donald Pearson resigned, along with Assistance Principal and Athletic Director Tray Crusciel.
Also in April, Benton Harbor Area Schools Superintendent Doctor Shelly Walker resigned amid an investigation and paid leave.
Uzelac was coach of the Tigers for the last three seasons and is credited with turning around an under-performing football program.
In 2015, Uzelac came out of retirement to take the job, after coaching at the college and professional levels.
Before he took over the team, Benton Harbor didn't have a winning season since 1989. They had a winning season each year under Uzelac.
