Benton Harbor pool to get a major makeover

BENTON HARBOR, Mich -- A community center in Benton Harbor will get a major makeover.

City officials announced plans to fix the pool at the Charles Grey Community Teen Center.

The annual $200,000 Whirlpool Donation will pay for the project.

The Olympic sized swimming poll was built in the 1970s but it's been closed the past two years.

Benton Harbor's Emergency Manager Joseph Harris got emotional when talking about the project.

"When I leave here I will be able to look back here and say this is one thing I'm glad I did, despite the fact tehre was controversy," Harris said.

Many city commissioners were against using the money for the pool.

There is no completion date for the project.
