Benton Harbor residents could be getting credit to help with overdue water bills
BENTON HARBOR, Mich - Benton Harbor residents could reportedly get $700 in credit to help with overdue water bills that were paused when the issues with the city's lead service lines were discovered.
At a meeting of the city personnel and finance committee this week, officials reported many customers still aren't paying their bills which is depleting the city's utility and general fund.
The committee previously considered $450 in credit to customers to help them get back on track but was told this week, $700 may be more in order.
If the full city commission agrees to the committee’s recommendation, it would cost about $2.1 million from the city’s remaining American Rescue Plan funds.
Officials say eligible parties must be active account holders.
