NOW: Benton Township Meijer vaccinates 1,200 Tuesday

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Meijer in Benton Township held a mass vaccination clinic Tuesday, immunizing 1,200 Michiganders who are 65 and older.

Meijer was enlisted by the state of Michigan to help with vaccinating that age group and the company has distributed 20,000 vaccines statewide in just these past two weeks.

“This is part of our program with the state of Michigan where we have been recognized as a federal retail pharmacy partner, so they are providing doses to us to administer, but we’re also going to be receiving doses from the federal government,” said Frank Guglielmi, Senior Director of Corporate Communications.

Right now, Meijer is getting over one thousand vaccines each week and trying to get them in people’s arms within 72 hours.

“We’ll continue to do these hopefully on a weekly basis, the key is we need people to register so we can slot them in through appointments,” said Guglielmi.

The wait time from your initial registration to vaccine appointment date is expected to shorten at Meijer as well, with the corporation bringing additional Meijer pharmacists from around the state right here to Benton Township to get the most out of each vaccination clinic.

“This is why a lot of us got in to pharmacy is to prepare for something like this, to be able to reach out into the community and make patients healthy,” said Jamie Vroman, Meijer Northern Region Pharmacy Clinical Specialist.
