Beware of money scams using crypto currency, Goshen Police warn
GOSHEN, Ind.- The detectives at Goshen Police Department (GPD) are warning against an increase in money scams, particularly those using crypto currency and money transfer apps.
Officials advised, if you are ever asked to purchase gift cards, buy crypto currency or forward money from one person to another, there is a 99.99% chance you are being scammed.
GPD also warns that a legitimate company will not send you funds to then send to someone else.
The scammers request information like direct deposit and routing numbers, and then prompt the victim to use an app such as Cash App or Zelle to deposit money sent previously from other accounts.
Detectives at GPD ask you to call your local police department to speak to someone if you are unsure about something, adding, "If it sounds too good to be true, it is."
