Bicyclist killed in collision with semi

LA PORTE, Ind. -- A bicyclist was killed when he disregarded a stop light and rode into the path of a semi, according to La Porte Police.
The crash happened Monday at approximately 6:41 p.m.
Police said a semi traveling north on J Street went through the intersection with 6th Street on a green light.
A bicyclist headed westbound disregarded the red light and rode into the intersection, into the path of the semi, police said.
The semi's driver, 63-year-old Jeffrey Smith, attempted to stop but was unable to stop before hitting the bicyclist.
The bicyclist, 53-year-old Glen Byrley of Hammond, was pronounced dead at La Porte Hospital.
Police and the La Porte County FACT are investigating.
