Feeling below zero with snow today, but temperatures trending...
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.—A Bitter Blast hit Michiana on Monday morning.
Ahead of Monday’s weather, people across Michiana stocked up on snow essentials in preparation.
Businesses like Kabelin Ace Hardware on Indiana 933 say people are buying salt and shovels, anything to help them survive this early winter weather.
Joe Bauer, Kabelin’s Assistant Manager, over the weekend helped customers pick out gloves that will keep their hands warm this winter and says it’s that time of year, where customers trek into his store looking for cold weather gear.
“I’ve seen a pick up in the last couple of days. We’ve sold a few snow blowers, a lot of shovels have been going out, today as well as yesterday, and the day before. Salt is starting to pick up, the little shaker cans,” Bauer said.
At Ginger Valley Landscaping in Granger, Greg Leyes says they noticed more customers too, all trying to winterize their plants before the ground freezes.
Leyes suggests that homeowners spray their plants with a protective oil spray to keep them alive in the cold temperatures.
“Preparedness is probably the best thing, you know, reacting after the fact sometimes is not good,” Leyes said.
I'd say we skipped fall this year. Moderate snow in @CityOfElkhartIN with many roads slushy or snowy. ❄☃️#INwx #MIwx pic.twitter.com/A2kIUlUxe5
