Black Lives Matter rally to be held in South Bend

NOW: Black Lives Matter rally to be held in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- The Indiana Chapter of Black Lives Matter will host a rally on Saturday at Jon R. Hunt Plaza from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The rally is geared towards the interactions between women of color and South Bend Police in the aftermath of the controversial shooting of Eric Logan.

The rally will include speeches from Black Lives Matter and community members expressing their concerns about policing in South Bend. In addition to the stories being told, community members will also form committees to serve as liaisons between city leaders, law enforcement, and the community they serve.

The event is open to the public.

Here is the thing. First and foremost obey the laws set forth by your community. If you are stopped or detained by an officer, do as you are told. If you are armed with a weapon, tell the officer. You will probably be detained and entered into a data base. If you are a lawbreaker and have a record, it will come out. If you have a firearm and are allowed by law to possess that weapon you will be fine. If not you WILL go to jail. Don't tell any law enforcement officer not to touch you. Don't tell them you know your rights! Unless you are a judge! I have been stopped many times in my life. Stay in your vehicle unless told to exit it. Keep your hands on the wheel or at least in plain site. Believe it or not, being a minority does not afford you any protection from state, federal or local laws.
