Body recovered from St. Joseph River

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – A body has been recovered from the St. Joseph River Sunday morning by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit. Officers had been on the scene since late Friday night after a 911 call about a missing 45-year-old man.

Initial investigations say two adults and three juveniles were on a pontoon boat on the river and swimming, when one of the juveniles began to struggle and was saved by an adult.

The adult then did not resurface and a 911 call was made about the missing 45-year-old man.

The body recovered on Sunday a half mile down river is thought to be the missing man, but positive identification has not been made yet.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
