UPDATE: Niles boil water order lifted

UPDATE: As of Friday (Aug. 16) afternoon, the boil order has been lifted and the water is safe to drink.

ORIGINAL: NILES, Mich. -- The City of Niles reports a boil water order is currently in place for District 2 due to Coliform bacteria detected in the city's water.

City officials say the second sample taken for the month of August tested positive for Coliform, so boil your water before using.

After hydrants in the district were flushed, repeat samples were taken from both wells and the location of the first positive.

City officials say they will inform residents when the sampling shows no bacteria is detected.

The problem is anticipated to be resolved within five days, according to officials.

Residents are asked to continue using boiled or bottled water until otherwise notified.
