Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Indiana receives grant from IDOE for second year

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northern Indiana Corridor announced it has been selected to receive a Summer Learning Labs Grant by the Indiana Department of Education for the second year in a row.
The grant will support the organization's summer academic programming for students across the region.
Officials say the free, accelerated instruction in English Language Arts and math for students entering grades 1 through 8, is a partnership with nine local school districts and staffed by certified teachers.
IDOE has awarded approximately $10 million in total between the BGCNIC and the three other 2025 recipients in the state.
“These are not just impressive numbers—they represent the power of strong community partnerships and what happens when we invest in the strengths and potential of our youth,” said Duane Wilson, CEO of BGCNIC. “Our local school districts helped identify the students who would benefit most, and by hiring certified teachers to facilitate our academic curriculum, we were able to meet kids where they were and help them leap forward.”
IDOE says the awarded grants equal around $1,500 per student served.
In 2024, BGCNIC says their Summer Learning Labs served over 2,500 students across St. Joseph, Cass, Pulaski, Fulton, and White Counties.
Officials say for that year, a 26-percentage point increase was seen in ELA proficiency, matching the top results statewide, and a 20-percentage point improvement in math proficiency was seen, closely aligning with the state’s 24-point average.
