NOW: Fire at $11B New Carlisle Amazon facility Thursday afternoon

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Amazon released the following statement regarding Thursday's fire:

“A small fire at the construction site of a non-operational facility was quickly contained today. Safety is our top priority, and we’re thankful to local first responders for their swift action."

The New Carlisle Fire Department was dispatched to the Amazon facility for a report of two victims injured in a construction accident. While in route there were additional reports that SBN AWS Building 104 was filled with smoke, prompting the call to the upgraded to structure fire. Medical personnel from the New Carlise Fire Department and South Bend Fire Department began treating two of the workers.

Fire crews invested sands found no active fire, interior ventilation operations were initiated. Both patients were airlifted from the scene due to the severity of their injuries.

The cause of the incident and resulting injuries remains under investigation by the New Carlisle Fire Department, Indiana Department of Homeland Security Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

ORIGINAL: NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department has confirmed a fire has broken out at the Amazon facility at 3110 Edison Rd. Thursday afternoon.

The call came in at 11:25 a.m. and the scene was cleared by 1:25 p.m.

Authorities say there were two people injured but could not provide more details.

The facility is still under construction and not in operation.
