Brett Banasiewicz hosts local BMX contest

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Injured BMX star Brett Banasiewicz will make his first public appearance since suffering a career stopping bike accident last year.

The event will take place at The Kitchen this weekend. BMX pros are coming into town on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is open to all amateur riders.

Brett is set to host the fundraiser which will help his family pay off his medical bills.

His mom says he works 12 hours a day in rehab and she has never been prouder of her son.

“I am more proud of his determination and strength than any podium stand he's ever done. I am happy about the man he is becoming,” said Lisa Banasiewicz.

The contest gets underway Saturday at 2 p.m. and three pro judges will be on hand to choose a winner on Sunday.
