NOW: Arrest made in shooting death of 17-year-old South Bend girl

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Rahim Brumfield, the man charged with the murder of 17-year-old Tysiona Crawford, has been arrested.

Brumfield was arrested late Friday night by St. Joseph County Police, according to jail records. 

According to the St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney, on January 17th at approximately 8:00 p.m. South Bend Police were dispatched to the Clover and Hildreth Road intersection.

Police discovered a red Toyota turned over on its side with a number of bullet holes along with 9mm shell casings on the ground.

Police say the driver, Tysiona Crawford, was transported to Memorial Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the skull.

Crawford was declared dead sometime later from her wounds.

Witnesses told police that Brumfield was Crawford's ex-boyfriend and lived near Clover Street.

According to the probable cause affidavit, witnesses heard arguing before Crawford started to drive away and then gunshots.

The Prosecutor states that Brumfield threatened Crawford physically and he also threatened to shoot and kill her multiple times over Facebook Messenger.

The warrant for Brumfield's arrest was issued on February 7. 

Brumfield is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail with no bond.
