BUCHANAN, Ind.
Some people living in Buchanan were without power for over a day due to winter weather. While I&M worked throughout the day to restore power, the township fire station served as an emergency warming shelter.
Those affected by the outages were able to shower, and sleep in the station until power was restored. I&M worked around the clock to bring power back to Michiana and even enlisted the help of contractors from Ohio.
Sue Unger, like others in the in the area, relied on a generator to keep her power going. However, she says for the warming station is a huge help for those without a back up plan.
"For the ones that weren’t as fortunate as we were, it’s a godsend because it was really cold out," says Unger.
