Candidates for SBCSC School Board position to give presentations

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Monday, the first round of interviews was held for the vacant South Bend School Board seat.

Fourteen people were interviewed for the spot left empty by Stephanie Spivey who recently stepped down for personal reasons.

Each candidate had just 10 minutes to introduce themselves and tell the board why they feel they are best for the job.

Here is why one candidate feels he is the person for the position:

"I’m a pastor. I was born and raised as a native of South Bend. I went through South Bend schools, so I can identify with our children,” said Cory L. Gathright Sr.

"People are making effective presentations. We have material on then and although the interviews and presentations are short, they are revealing," said School Board President Roger Parent.

The second round of interviews will be held Tuesday evening, starting at 4 p.m.

Sixteen candidates are on the schedule to be interviewed.
