Cass County man falls asleep at the wheel

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports his office investigated a single vehicle crash on Decatur Rd, North of Shurte St. in Penn Twp., Cass County, Michigan. 

The crash happened on early Friday morning around 6:00 a.m.

First responders arrived on scene and found the vehicle off the roadway, crashed into a tree. 

The driver is a 20-year-old male from Battle Creek, Michigan.  Deputies say the man was on his way to work when he said he fell asleep. 

The driver was transported from the scene to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Alcohol and Drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash at this time.  Seat belts and airbags were used/deployed in the crash. 

This case remains under investigation.
