Cass County residents can drop off used tires for free during April 26 event
CASS COUNTY, Mich. - Cass County residents can drop off used tires and other solid waste for free with the Cass County Road Commission on April 26.
The road commission is collecting these items from 3 to 6 p.m. at its offices, located at 340 N. O'Keefe St. in Cassopolis.
Cass County residents must bring proof of residence with them in order to drop off items for free.
During the event, residents can also drop off up to 300 pounds of hazardous waste at no charge.
After 300 pounds, residents will be charge $1.74 per pound.
Electronics, small appliances, metal items and anything steel will be accepted, as well as flags and eyeglasses.
The following items cannot be taken:
- Semi tires
- Tractor tires
- Refrigerators
- Washing machines
- Air conditioners
- Dehumidifiers
- Fireworks
- Used motor oil
- Fire extinguishers
- Ammunition
- Biohazards
- Propane tanks larger than 20 pounds
Latex paint is not hazardous and can be discarded at the event. Event organizers recommend letting the paint dry out before disposing it.
All collected tires will be taken to a tire recycling facility near Sturgis.
Hazardous waste will be individually taken apart for recycling.
A local VFW will dispose of the flags.
No appointment is needed to drop off items but organizers are reminding residents that the event is busy and ask for patience during it.
