Celebratory gunfire could cost you $2,500

The South Bend Police Department is reminding residents they could be fined $2,500 for illegally firing a gun within the city limits.

The high fine is to deter residents from celebratory gunfire, especially during New Year's celebrations.

Firing a weapon recklessly can kill or injure innocent bystanders and/or cause property damage.

Police and fire are also reminding residents to use legal fireworks responsibly.
