SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Beacon Health System received a $127,500 grant from The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and Four Winds Casinos, and a ceremony took place in downtown South Bend on Tuesday to celebrate the donation.
The donation represents the proceeds from the 2019 Four Winds Invitational back in June, which took place at Blackthorn Golf Course.
The money will go towards the purchase of pediatric eye-imaging technology.
This is the eighth year of a partnership between The Pokagon Band, Four Winds Casinos and Blackthorn.
They have raised around $672,500 for Beacon Health System.
“For the family it’s a real logistical challenge to take time off work,” Larry Tracy said, President of Beacon Children’s Hospital. “To make that trip to so called bigger city and the ability to be able to keep those children closer to home is not only good care for the patient but it’s great care and great support for that family here locally.”
The new technology will allow doctors to diagnose patients in Michiana, eliminating the burden of traveling outside of the region to receive treatment.
