Chase Tower pays back taxes

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- For the first time in over a year, the owners of the Chase Tower in downtown South Bend have paid taxes on the building.

The county treasurer's office tells ABC57 News that the original owner of the building paid more than $344,000 in back taxes, just ahead of a possible tax sale on the building.

Over the last few years there has been a pattern of waiting till the last minute to pay the taxes to keep the building from going to a tax sale.

The building could soon be under new ownership as well.

There is a currently a bidder under contract to purchase the building.

The deal needs to be approved by the court, lender and the current owner.
