Chickens, horses unhurt in barn fire

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- In Berrien Springs, a barn off Old US 31 caught fire, sending animals running wild Monday afternoon. All of the horses and chickens made it safely to the pasture after the fire started.

Firefighters from both Eau Claire and Berrien Springs were called in to put out the fire.

The strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly.

By the time fire crews arrived, the entire barn was consumed.

Firefighters say one challenge was the lack of fire hydrants in the area. They had to bring in their own water to fight the flames.

The horses and chickens that lived in the barn have been taken to another facility for the time being.

There were no injuries.
