Christmas tree disposal begins in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind.—Drop off centers are now available for Elkhart residents to dispose of their Christmas trees, Mayor Tim Neese announced on Thursday.

The City of Elkhart is offering residents four different locations where trees can be disposed of at no cost.

The four drop off locations are:

1. West Side Middle School at 101 South Nappanee Street (Parking lot on Nappanee Street)

2. North Side Middle School at 300 Lawrence Street (Parking lot near the track on Bristol Street)

3. Riverview Park Softball Complex at 340 Riverview Avenue (Parking lot on Riverview Avenue behind Riverview Elementary School)

4. Pierre Moran Pool at 200 West Lusher Avenue behind Pierre Moran School

Beginning January 7, City of Elkhart residents may also place Christmas trees curbside for pickup on their regular trash collection day.

Residents should remove all ornaments, lights, stands, wrapping, and other objects from the tree prior to disposing it.

Barrels will be available at the drop off locations for removal of any objects.

Both drop off and curbside programs will run through Friday, January 18.

For more information, residents should contact Elkhart Buildings and Grounds Department at (574) 970-0542.
