Circus elephant shot in drive-by

TUPELO, Miss. -- A place for entertainment and fun turned into a crime scene in Mississippi.

A circus elephant was shot in a drive-by shooting just outside the Ringling Brothers stage.

A vet with the circus treated the nearly 8,000 pound animal who has been a circus performer her whole life.

"Never in the 143 years of Ringling Brothers Circus has anything like this ever happened. There is a lot of disbelief, and you know, a lot of disappointment," said Rob Lang, General Manager.

The elephant is expected to be okay.

Since she is an endangered species, the person responsible could go to jail for a long time.
