Citizens receive commendations for rescuing 8-year-old from St. Joseph River

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey honored two men who saved an 8-year-old from the St. Joseph River on June 19.

Cameron Meade and Austin Stahly jumped into the swift moving river to save the life of an 8-year-old who was struggling in the water.

They also attempted to save the life of an adult who also jumped into the water to save the child, but the adult male did not survive.

Sheriff Bailey presented the Citizen Lifesaving Commendations to Meade and Stahly on August 5.
