MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and other city leaders held a meeting on Monday to discuss a possible ordinance to create safer environments at Mishawaka businesses while they host parties.
During the meeting, a discussion for a possible ordinance came up to prevent tragedies from happening in the future that could be similar to the mass shooting at Heavenly Goat Brewing Company in June that killed one person and injured four others.
Police say the owner of the business never got an event permit that would have required the party to have on-hand security.
“We’re not looking to put a burden on citizens or on businesses. In some cases, we think this will protect businesses because they might find out they were being protected from something that they didn’t even know about,” said Mayor Wood.
There is currently no set timeframe for when an ordinance could be enacted to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.
