BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The City of Buchanan has announced a fee increase to $25 for parking violations effective as of July 1.

The City of Buchanan Police Department wishes to remind residents that parking is not permitted on city streets or in municipal parking areas between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Downtown residents who do not have access to private parking are also required to park in designated marked spaces and to display a valid parking permit.

Additional parking violations include parking in a yellow zone, parking next to a fire hydrant or parking in a no-parking zone.

If initial parking citations are not paid within five days, a fee will increase to $50. Following 15 days of non-payment, the fee will increase to $75. After 30 days of non-payment, the violation will be transferred to the 5th District Court where the fines will be documented.

Fees for parking violations can be paid by cash or check by visiting the Buchanan Police Department in-person at 720 E. Front St., Suite A, or by placing the payment in a provided envelope and mailing it in. Note that, with the latter option, postage is required.

There is also an online payment option by visiting the City of Buchanan Website and paying by credit card.

If you have any questions regarding the fee increase or payment, you can contact the Buchanan Police Department at 269-695-5120.
