City of Niles votes yes to limit marijuana stores, township keeps pot store ban

NILES, Mich. -- The City of Niles' proposal to limit marijuana retailers has passed while Niles Township's proposal to unban marijuana establishments didn't.

The results show 61 percent of voters said yes to the city's proposal, while 52 percent of voters in the township voted no to have marijuana stores.

The city's limitations mean the amount of pot retailers is now capped at five.

In September, township officials said the proposal is intended to provide protections for residents and establish where dispensaries could operate.
