SOUTH BEND, Ind. – On February 19 the Pokagon Band and its Four Wind Casinos donated a total of $860,000 to South Bend Major James Mueller and several non-profits in Michiana.
Some of the organizations receiving money were the Boys & Girls Club, the YWCA of North Central Indiana, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, and Beacon Children’s Hospital.
While a lump sum was given out on Monday, the rest of the donations will be received over a five year period.
These contributions are made possible from the revenue created on Four Winds South Bend casino gaming devices.
“It was a conversation with our previous mayor what would be what his thoughts were what our thoughts combined the two come up with an agreement on what we think might be most beneficial to the community,” Pokagon Chairman Matthew Wesaw explained.
Mueller is thankful of the Pokagon Band’s generosity and efforts to make the community better.
“I mean it’s great when we come together as a community. That’s how we’re going to tackle our biggest challenges and as I mentioned earlier, this contribution from the Pokagon Band is one of the reasons why we’re able to dream big,” South Bend Mayor James Mueller said.
