SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The City of South Bend will provide free Christmas tree disposal for residents from Wednesday, January 2nd through Thursday, January 31st.

Any resident within city limits paying for City trash service is eligible for one free tree pickup per household. Each additional tree will cost $10.

Guidelines for tree pickup:

  • No artificial trees and/or trees containing glass, metal or wire- they will not be collected.
  • The tree must be placed curbside away from cars by 6:00 a.m. day of pickup -which is the same as normal trash collection days.
  • Residents must avoid placing trees in the street or alleyway.
  • All ornaments, lights, tree-stands, nails and other metals have to be removed prior to pickup to avoid harm to employees and tree shredding equipment.

After January 31st, Christmas tree pickups will be counted as the household’s free monthly extra yard waste removal.
