City to auction off Family Dollar property

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend will once again address the saga surrounding a piece of land it tried to give to a private catholic school.

This coming Monday, the city will auction off what used to be the Family Dollar property on LaSalle Avenue.

The auction will take place during its board of public works meeting in the county city building.

The minimum bid must be $545,000.

The land sits right in the middle of an area that will be the new Saint Joseph’s High School.

The city paid more than $1 million, and originally tried to give it to the school for $1.
