CMU rape suspect dead

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Authorities say the man suspected of kidnapping and raping a Central Michigan University student is dead.

A CMU senior was kidnapped at gunpoint on campus and raped at a home a few miles away.

She managed to escape by jumping out of a moving vehicle.

Police say the suspect,  Eric Ramsey, 30, was spotted but tried to run.

"He did make contact with the deputy's car. At that point, the Crawford County deputy got out of the car, and started firing at the driver - the lone individual in the car. He was fatally wounded," said Leo Mioduszewski, Isabella County Sheriff.

Michigan State Police say the man had an extensive criminal history and  the CMU student is recovering.
