Coach Kelly discusses upcoming football season
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame Head Football Coach Brian Kelly held his first press conference of the 2017 season on Monday.
Fall training camp begins Tuesday where the Irish will begin preparations for the season opening game against Temple on September 2nd.
There was an excitement and even a little tension in the air at Brian Kelly's season opening press conference.
There were a lot of questions about what changes have been made to improve upon last year's 4-and-8 record.
Coach Kelly addressed last season's disappointment saying everyone on the team is fueled by what transpired in 2016. He used the keywords vision and mission, saying the team knows that the bar has been set with a tradition of excellence. And the mission is to graduate all of his players and to win a national championship.
Kelly says he has made necessary changes not only in his staff with the hiring of both a new offensive and defensive coordinator but he's also made changes within himself saying he should have focused on the process over production.
"I let our football team down, not focusing on those very important values and that process and went right to production and looked to replace production and that was the feedback that I got that allowed me to put the vision together for this football team and the mission and really the values for us to make the kind of transition necessary for us to be where we are," said Coach Kelly.
Kelly says some of those values he's focusing on this season are attention to the details, being smart on and off the field and he wants his team to have grit and a winning attitude.
