Coach Kelly talks Wake Forest

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Fighting Irish are back to practice after a big win against Navy.

"We played well against a good team and are excited about carrying that over this week,” said Head Coach Brian Kelly.

Notre Dame and Wake Forest will face each other for the first time this Saturday at BB&T Field in North Carolina.

Kelly said Wake Forest is a skilled and athletic team. Both teams are coming into the game with a 5-3 record. The two teams also have another similarity and that’s a sophomore starting quarterback.

"Both teams are having some success. They want more, we want more, but I  think that’s the nature of a quarterback gaining experience, so I think there's some similarities,” said Kelly.

Kelly said Wake Forest will also keep their defense busy.

“We’re going to have to obviously get the ball out of their hands quickly,” said Kelly.

The Irish Coach said his team just needs to keep doing what they’re doing. "Play consistent football that’s really what this is about,” said Kelly.

The Irish are hitting the road for two weekends, but Kelly said he knows they’ll stay focused. "We've played well on the road. I like our maturity on the road. We’re really focused,” said Kelly.

Saturday’s game at Wake Forest is expected to be packed. The BB&T Field seats only 31,500 fans, which is about of third of Notre Dame Stadium.

"Our guys are prepared. They know that Wake Forest is going to play their best and regardless of what the size of the stadium is, it’s all in your preparation and how you play the game,” said Kelly.

You can catch the game Saturday, November 5, on ABC 57 at 8 p.m.
