Backpacks for Good event set for Aug. 16 at Coloma High School

COLOMA, Mich. -- The Berrien Community Foundation is partnering with the De Groot Family Foundation and Coloma and Watervliet schools to help local kids get the school supplies they need to start the 2024-25 year off on the right track.

At its annual Backpack for Good event, the BCF and partners will be providing over 575 backpacks filled with school supplies to students who attend Coloma, Watervliet or Hagar #6 schools, regardless of the ZIP code in which they live.

The event is planned for Aug. 16 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Coloma High School parking lot.

"In addition to the backpacks and school supplies, there will be farm-fresh vegetables and other food items available as well as community resources," organizers said.

Smaller backpacks are available for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade and larger backpacks are available for kids in sixth through twelfth grade.

“Backpacks For Good helps to alleviate financial burdens many families experience this time of year as their student heads back to school,” said Berrien Community Foundation President Lisa Cripps-Downey said. “We enjoy serving the community, bringing people together, and connecting them with local organizations and resources.”

No registration is required for the event.
