Commissioner charged with leaving the scene of a crash

A La Porte County Commissioner turned himself in to the La Porte County Jail after a warrant was issued for his arrest for allegedly leaving the scene of a property damage crash, according to Indiana State Police.

The La Porte County Sheriff's Department contacted the Indiana State Police to investigate the accident.

Indiana State Police said their investigation revealed on October 26, a gray 2011 Ford pickup truck entered the parking lot at 555 Michigan Avenue in La Porte, then made a right turn.

Police said the Ford struck the rear bumper of a blue 2002 Ford Explorer parked in the lot.

The driver allegedly left the parking lot.

Police said the suspect, 71-year-old David Decker, is a La Porte County Commissioner.

The case was sent to the La Porte County Prosecutor's Office for review. A warrant was issued for Decker for leaving the scene of a property damage crash. It is a class B misdemeanor.

Decker turned himself in to the jail. He was processed and released.
