UPDATE: Homecoming events cancelled in South Haven as crews fight large fire at plastics factory

UPDATE: Due to the industrial fire South Haven Public Schools announced all scheduled Homecoming activities for Friday night have been cancelled.

The cancellation includes the local parade and football game.

District officials say by 9 a.m., Saturday they will have more information about rescheduling.

ABC affiliate WZZM reports the city's power was shut off Friday afternoon as members of the South Haven Area Emergency Services battle a fire at East Jordan Plastics.

Fire officials said the fire began around 4:20 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. -- The City of South Haven confirmed an industrial fire has caused mass power outages Friday afternoon.

There is currently no estimated restoration time.

Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area of Stieve Drive.

Several videos of dark smoke coming from the fire have been posted to social media.
