NOW: Community not ready to let go of Mishawaka Fresh Thyme Farmers Market

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — After almost a decade of providing what customers say is fresh, affordable produce, the Midwestern grocery store chain, Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, is closing its Mishawaka location doors on Sept. 19.

Opening in February of 2016 on Mishawka’s Grape Rd. corridor, the Fresh Thyme team said they will not be renewing their lease simply due to not meeting the needed volume of business to maintain operations.

For the time being, they explained, they do not expect to close any other stores in the chain.

With the next closest Fresh Thyme Market over an hour away, many Michiana shoppers said they’re devastated to see it go.

"Well, Fresh Thyme, I think, has a lot of products that are discerning for the health-minded customer... not that any one store is perfect, but certainly they offer the Michiana area a nice selection for the person who's looking for healthier choices.

So, I am sad to see this is happening,” said shopper Kelly Wiseman.

Several explained that the connection to the Mishawaka location goes further than just a quick stop, knowing the store to have great customer service, fresh farmers market-style produce, and fan-favorite hard-to-find items.

"I come here every week, sometimes twice a week, to get my no-salt turkey… they're… reasonably priced, they're all fresh. You don't have to worry about getting bad products. If you're buying lettuce or tomatoes, everything is ready to go. The location is ideal, it’s to and from work,” said customer Jody Julian.

Fresh Thyme Market official statement:

“After thoughtful consideration, we have made the decision not to renew our lease and will be closing our Mishawaka, IN location on September 19, 2025. We are deeply grateful to our loyal customers, Team Members and the Mishawaka community for the opportunity to serve them over the years. We are committed to supporting our impacted Team Members by actively facilitating local job opportunities and connections to help them transition successfully."
