Condoleezza Rice's connection to South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—Former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, has a connection to South Bend.

In 1975, Rice graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a master’s degree in political science.

Rice went on to become the first African-American woman to serve as Secretary of State.

Rice returned to Notre Dame in 2015 to speak at a tribute to former President of the University of Notre Dame Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., who passed away at age 97.

“Perhaps what connects us most over the years that would come was my understanding of his love of the global humanity,” Rice said at the tribute.
