BERRIEN CO., Mich. -- On Wednesday, Congressman Fred Upton toured Berrien County orchards to check out the crop damage.
Hard freezes wiped out most of the fruit crop this spring -- from grapes, to cherries, to peaches.
Upton told us the visit blew him away.
"I've never seen anything like this. We've had problems with fire-blight, and things like that, which we've been able to deal with. But, there's just nothing --row after row, after row," said Upton.
Upton said the state has to act first and declare the region a disaster area.
But before that can happen, farmers need numbers showing just how big of a loss they suffered.
