CASSOPOLIS, Mich. - It's a busy weekend in Michigan high school basketball, as state champions will be crowned in East Lansing.
Closer to home in Michiana, the Cassopolis Rangers got a nice surprise with a visit from Congressman Fred Upton.
While the Rangers are on the outside looking in for the state finals, their season was still a massive success. The team went undefeated through the regular season and kept it going well into March, capturing a district title.
The perfect season ended in the regional semifinals, but Rep. Upton said he wanted to honor the excitement this group offered the Cassopolis community.
"It's really captured us," he said. "Here's a really successful team. You can see they are teammates and they work well together. They had a pretty impressive record. It brings a community together particularly when they can cheer and they win. Obviously, here in Cassopolis, they did."
The visit came as part of Rep. Upton's tour of schools throughout Cass County and Southwest Michigan, as he works towards legislation to improve school safety.
