Convicted sex offender says he's living under bridge

A man who must register as a sex offender with the state of Indiana put his address as a bridge in South Bend.

“We know this is certainly outside the norm, outside usual conditions,” said Bill Thompson, St. Joseph County Assistant Police Chief.

It’s a bridge many South Bend residents cross every day.

“I was just very shocked,” said Ashley Terry, a concerned parent.

“Really, what’s our justice system come to?” said Danny Bright, a Michiana resident.

Dale Bradshaw was released from the New Castle correctional facility on Thursday.

Bradshaw spent 3 years behind bars for molesting a 5-year-old Michiana boy.

After his release, he registered as a sex offender and put Ironwood Bridge as his address.

Bright also lives under the bridge.

“If they haven’t seen it and they don’t know, they get the assumption that I’m him and I don’t need that, I don’t want that, I can’t have that,” said Bright.

Bright was outraged when he found out Bradshaw would be living under the same bridge as him.

“They’re going to parole a pedophile, someone that’s been convicted for being a pedophile, to a bridge?" Bright said.

Bright isn't the only one perplexed by Bradshaw’s new address.

“I don’t see how someone can name their residence as under a bridge, I don’t see that as a residence,” said Aaron Burgess, who shops near the bridge.

Thompson says Bradshaw is currently in compliance with all the requirements of the law.

“We are complying with the law and we are making sure that this violator is in compliance as well,” said Thompson.

The grandmother of the 5-year-old victim sent a statement about this situation. She did not want her identity revealed.

Allowing Dale Bradshaw to live under the Ironwood Bridge is horrifying to me. I mean how do you truly keep track of an individual when they're allowed to essentially run loose with no direction. Dale Bradshaw is living under a bridge less than a mile from my home. How do you even process something this disturbing? My family feels victimized one more time by Dale Bradshaw.

On Tuesday, Bradshaw's address on the sex offender registry was listed as a residence on Michigan Street.
