SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- On Tuesday the Saint Joseph County Council narrowly voted to appoint a new health officer.

Despite no questions asked or discussion from the council, it came down to a split 5-4 vote to approve Dr. Michelle Migliore as Health Officer.

Dr. Migliore has served the South Bend community for years at area hospitals with a focus on family medicine.

"I'm excited about continuing our vision that we started a year ago," says Dr. Migliore. "We have a strategic plan, a five-year strategic plan that was started as we finished our first year, and I anticipate continuing to follow the same strategic plan for the next four years."

Her appointment comes after current health office Dr. Diana Purushotham announced her resignation in March due to family relocation.

Now Dr. Migliore will go before the County Commissioners for their approval, with a hopeful start date of June 6th.
