After months in limbo, the fate of Portage Manor has been decided.
In a 5-4 vote last night, the St. Joseph County Council makes the decision to close the assisted living facility. With that said, the decision is not coming without push back.
County leaders opened proposals for what to do with Portage Manor in March, when the only person willing to take over the facility was Dr. Sylvana Atallah, a Granger physician. However, her request was denied when county commissioners said they weren't confident in her plan to keep the facility afloat.
The decision leaves some people stuck, unsure of what their future will hold.
