Crash involving an ATV leaves one person dead
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Emergency personnel responded to a call at approximately 3:50 p.m. Saturday for a report of a crash involving an ATV and a pick-up truck that left one dead in Sodus Township, police say.
Police report that deputies arrived on the scene to find a 23-year-old woman from Illinois lying in the front yard of a residence on Hipps Hollow Road, west of Evans Road.
Investigators determined that the woman was driving an ATV on a dirt trail before failing to yield on Hipps Hollow Road and getting struck by a pick-up truck, police say.
Police say the driver of the ATV was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured in the collision.
Police say that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
