State police investigating crash involving LaGrange County deputy

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind.  - Troopers with the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post are investigating a serious crash involving a pickup truck and a LaGrange County Sherriff’s Department vehicle on Saturday.

The crash happened at the intersection of SR 120 and County Road 100 East.

The initial investigation found that the deputy was driving eastbound on SR 120 with his emergency lights and siren activated, responding to an unrelated call, when the truck did not yield and pulled out in front of the deputy.

The deputy hit the truck, causing the truck to fall into a ditch and roll onto its roof, according to reports.

The deputy's vehicle landed in the ditch right side up.

The driver of the truck had to be extricated from the vehicle.

He was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.

The LaGrange deputy and his K9 partner were not injured, but the deputy was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
