Fire crews battle structure fire on South Michigan Street for hours

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—A fire was reported on South Michigan Street by a passerby on Friday morning, according to law enforcement officials.

Firefighters were sent to the scene of a structure fire in the 900 block of South Michigan Street around 6:45 a.m. on Friday.

Officials closed off a portion of Sample Street near the fire while crews work. Officials said to also avoid Main and Michigan due to traffic delays.

It is unknown if anyone was inside of the structure at the time of the fire.

According to crews on scene, firefighters cannot get into the building so they're working from the exterior.

Gosh all I've heard this AM is where you were not to drive and where you should go to bypass the scene. It's quite obvious someone is a snowflake!

Really? They had a massive area, way outside of the operational area, blocked off. They cut off all the main through-ways just south of town. Add that to the already slow "smart streets", and you have quite the mess. Pointing out idiotic incompetence is not being a snowflake. It seems like the people in this city enjoy having morons run things.

It's quite obvious that the city has no emergency traffic control plan. What a mess. Someone should be fired.
