Data breach response costs IU more than $80,000

Indiana University has spent more than $80,000 trying to figure out how current and former students’ information was exposed.

Information that included names, addresses, and social security numbers of students enrolled in the IU system between 2011 and 2014 was unsecured for almost a year because security protections were not working properly.

So far the investigation has not found any evidence that any information has been compromised.

IU officials believe that no outside person has accessed the data.
