Dayne Crist plans to leave Fighting Irish

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist is planning to leave the Fighting Irish.

The senior met with Coach Brian Kelly on Friday to discuss his release from the team. Irish safety Harrison Smith talked about Crist's decision tonight during the Notre Dame press conference. He says Crist will be missed.

"Just getting to know him off the field and being friends with him,” said Smith. “I'll always be happy that we got to do that. I hope he's successful wherever he ends up going.”

Crist has one year of eligibility left. He is scheduled to graduate this month. NCAA rules say Crist can transfer and play immediately as long as he enrolls in a graduate program not offered at Notre Dame.
