SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police confirm they are investigating a deadly shooting near Portage and Lathrop.
It happened around 9:30 this morning.
Police said a fight or altercation occurred between people in two different cars. The subjects crashed their vehicles and one person was shot.
Officials confirmed one male victim died from a gunshot wound.
Police described the suspect as a "black male in dark clothing" fleeing east.
A K9 officer led officials to the water at Pinhook Park. South Bend Police continued to search for the suspect by boat.
The crash reportedly happened as a result of the fight or altercation but the CMHU is investigating this as a fatal shooting.
A person matching the suspect's description has been detained near the 2100 block of Beverly Place and is being questioned by investigators.
